Please tell me Vinci.
Alright, Mona Lisa. It's time to get out of the Louvre and breathe. Why should you move abroad? First, no one is forcing you...well, maybe your boss is kindly sending you to the middle of nowhere (which usually has a name and few inhabitants you might relate to). Truth is: why would you leave everything you know to start a new job, surrounded by people you don't know, eating slightly different food far from your family? Dear reader, today we will explore the reasons and the why people do choose to move abroad, we will talk about Karl Rhonke and his research about levels of challenges, and hopefully you'll get a better understanding of life as expats. Mona, you can now smile, and listen.

1. Open your mind.
Things aren't the same because you are somewhere else.
Food
Culture
Work
Friends
Routine
Way of Transportation
Family
House
(Sometimes) language
Money currency
Insurances
Remember to put all of your life in a safe, and, open your mind to another way of living. Difference scares people, the unknown scares people, but you, you know it in advance, so you become open minded to new possibilities.
2. Transform you.
Karl Rhonke used the Yerkes Dodson law and performance system to determine rats level of arousal and elaborated a stress levels system dividing stress in three different zones, the comfort zone, the stretch zone and the panic zone. He demonstrated how rats experiencing a certain amount of stress (not toooooooo much) would be better at achieving tasks, than the rats that were stress free. He also demonstrated that rats going over TOO much stress wouldn't be efficient at all to complete specific tasks. This is a super simplified summary of what he did, but there are some clear links with living abroad.
My understanding. Pick a country that will challenge you enough, a country or experience, you will learn from it. Then, once you get too comfortable (like these old slippers that start to smell like your grandpa's sweat), select a new option.
People challenge themselves in life in many different ways. This is one way to do so.
3. Love travelling
Well.
Traveling is like watching a movie.
Being an expat is reading the complete book series.
Both are cool.
4. Curiosity
Once one of my teacher told me, the best gift you can give your students is curiosity. At that time, I was too young to understand it, but now, it's clear.
If you are curious, you ask questions. If you ask questions you learn. If you learn, other people might too. And boom! You made the world a better place.
5. Save money to become a superstar
It's possible.
You can also buy a van. Buy a car, get a perm, rent a house, get this bike, buy a house, invest. Whatever makes you happy. Depending on the place you land in, there are many money making opportunities around the globe, especially if you're open minded.
